CompTIA A+ Certification

A+ Certification is a testing program sponsored by CompTIA that certifies the knowledge and technical competency of entry-level computer service technicians. A+ Certification is a non-vendor, non-product specific certification program. It provides an industry-recognized and valuable credential that may open doors with prospective employers or lead to job advancement opportunities. The program is supported by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers, and publications.

The A+ course offered at New Horizons is a 10-day class that prepares students to take the two A+ exams: A+ Essentials (220-601) and A+ IT Technician (220-602).

Audience
A+ Certification is an ideal program for anyone who wishes to gain a basic understanding of computer network technology. The course is suited for novice computer users looking to upgrade their skills in order to successfully perform as an entry-level computer service technician.

Prerequisites
New Horizons Computer Learning Centers and CompTIA do not strictly define the prerequisites for A+. As a result, no pre-existing knowledge or skill set involving computer technology is required.

Course Outline
For more information on the specific topics covered in the A+ Certification course, please refer to the course outline.

Acquired Skills
A+ Certification training will help you troubleshoot, install programs, use DOS, Windows 9x, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and their applications, as well as master skills in formal problem solving. You will also gain the benefit of hardware knowledge such as CPUs, memory, storage media, modems, network interface cards (NICs) and peripherals.

Requirements
Taking two exams - A+ Essentials (220-601) and A+ IT Technician (220-602).  The Essentials exam tests the student's knowledge of basic computer hardware and operating systems which will include installation, building, upgrading, repairing, configuring, troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing and preventative maintenance, with additional elements of security and soft skills. The IT Technician exam is targeted for individuals who work or intend to work in a mobile or corporate technical environment with a high level of face-to-face interaction.
